Microsoft Corp is cooler than you might think.
A Reutes/Ipsos poll found that just under half of 853 responds between age of 18 and 29 thought Microsoft is now cooler than it was a year or two ago.
The software maker, often derided in Silicon Valley for failing to dream up products that captivate a new generation of social media and mobile savvy consumers ,managed to pip Facebook Inc .In the survey only 42 percent of young adults thought the world's largest network is cooler now than in the past.Twitter scored 47 percent, below Microsoft 's 50 percent.
Part of Microsoft's lift appears to stem from a well-coordinated bitz around it all-new Surface tablets, which have revamped the familiar Windows interface with tile-based,mobile app-friendly look and feel. Its Xbox gaming console and "Kinect" Accessories ,which has in past year also burnished its image around younger consumers.
Apple Inc ,despite falling of favour with many Wall Street investors ,still scored well in the Reuters/Ipsos poll, the first in series that aims to measure brand perception and usage over time for major consumer tech brands.
Microsoft dominates the personal computing area and is still far larger than most other tech corporation on the planet. The survey "definietly shows that Microsoft's efforts are paying off" said Gartner analyst Michael Gartenberg.
Digital data generated by india last year, which if stored in Apple's iPhone 5 with 32GB space , will equal over 5,100 stacks of the device, as tall as Mount Everest, a study by EMC-IDC said Wednesday.
"India's digital information in 2012 would equal to more than 5,100 stacks of iPhone 5 device that are as tall as the Sub continents famed Mt Everest " an EMC-sponsered IDC digital universe study said.
The world's tallest peak , Mount Everest stands at 8,848 meters.
India's share of digital information is expected to grow 23-fold between 2012-2020, driven by continued growth of internet usage, social networks, and smartphones among consumers, falling cost of technology, digitisation among others, study said.
"The digital bits captured or created each year in India are expected to grow from 127 EB(exabytes) to 2.9 ZB(zettabyte) between 2012 and 2020" it added.
One EB has 18 zeroez after 1 and ZB has 21 zereos . However , less than half apercent of all digital information is analysed today while 36 percent would provide valuable insights ,it said.
"India's digital transformation is happening at rapid pace exposing gaps in technology invesments that exists in enterprises today.Less than half percent of digital information is analysed today, business and government need to recognise this and invest in understanding and tapping it" EMC India and SAARC President Rajesh Janey said.
The study said that india's digital universe is growing much faster than available storage . "while in 2012 only 1 exabyte of storage capacity was available for every 3.4 exabyte of data. By 2020 data is expected to grow almost thrice to 9.4 exabyte of available storage" it said
it also higlighted that cloud adoption is growing fast and by 2020, 42 percent of digital information will be "touched " by the cloud.

Intel launched a data-center chip using low-power technology found in smartphones , stepping up competition in the nascent microserver market and winning a nod from Facebook.
The Atom chip rolled out on tuesday uses much less electricty than Intel's previous processors for servers and comes as Intel's rivals also eye the low-power server niche.
Energy-sipping chips similar to those used in smartphones and tablets lack the horsepower of traditional server processor made by intel. But data centers that combine many low-power chips instead of just a few heavy-duty processors may provide more computing power for less money, and use less electricity.
Microservers have yet to gain serious traction with traditional corporate customers like banks and manufactures , and the potential size of the market remains unclear.
But Internet giants like Facebook, Amazon.com and Google have been experimenting with ways to use low-power chips to make their data centre more efficient.
At an intel event launching the Atom chips, a facebook infrastructure executive said the social network has found that low-power chips excel at processoing the 4.5 billion updates, likes post and comments its 1 billion active users add to the site every day.
Intel dominates the PC and severs markets, but was slow to design chips for mobile market, where chips using technology from ARM holdings have become ubiquitous.
In October, ARM unvelied new chip designs aimed at microservers. ARM belives servers using low power chips based on its design could account of data centers by 2020.
Diane Bryant, in charge of intel's data center business, declined to say how large Intel belives the microservers market could become . She said the Atom chips have been chosen over 20 upcoming products focused on microservers, storage and communications.
